Mary Rose
Spreads made for an activity magazine brief revolving around the theme of collections, one spread being educational, and the other being an activity. The spreads explore the theme of the Mary Rose: Henry the VIII’s warship which sunk off the coast of Portsmouth over 450 years ago. The spreads feature characters found in the Mary Rose museum which were aboard the ship all those years ago along with their possessions which the children have to interact with through finding them either on the seabed or within the ship’s ruins. It also explores the characters of the divers which discovered the shipwreck, in particular Alexander McKee, head of the expedition. The illustrations are drawn using a crayon brush in order to replicate a child-like style of drawing, whilst the vibrant colours of the fish allow for a playful tone and adds detail.
